WeSort.AI GmbH is a high-tech start-up from Würzburg that is revolutionizing recycling through artificial intelligence and is thus making a significant contribution to the urgently needed circular economy. Our deep learning systems enable both granular analysis and sorting of, for example, electronic waste and various plastics. In 2023, we were one of six start-ups nationwide to be awarded the prestigious Founders' Prize plus from the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWK) for our systems. In 2024, we received the next major award as one of the winners of the German Founders' Prize, initiated by Stern, Sparkasse, ZDF and Porsche.

In addition, at WeSort.AI we work on research projects with well-known partners such as Fraunhofer and Siemens to combat climate change and ocean pollution.

This is your new passion

  • ​Design and construction of data pipelines to automate the collection, processing, and provisioning of image and video data

  • Implementation of data extraction methods from diverse sources such as sensors, cameras, and online databases

  • Development of algorithms and routines for data cleaning and preprocessing, including normalization, scaling, noise reduction, contrast adjustment, and geometric transformations to optimize image quality

  • Application of specific image preprocessing techniques, such as histogram equalization, sharpening, rectification, and color space conversion prior to data transmission to maximize visual data quality and enhance analytical accuracy

  • Annotation and labeling of image and video data with precise tags to support object detection and segmentation models

  • Creation and management of specialized datasets for validation and testing to assess model generalization and performance

  • Automation of data cleaning and annotation processes using modern scripting languages to improve efficiency and accuracy

  • Implementation of data transfer and storage processes for efficient handling of large datasets, including the application of image compression techniques to minimize storage requirements without compromising quality

  • Monitoring and optimization of data pipeline performance to prevent bottlenecks and increase data processing speed

  • Development of error-handling strategies and monitoring of data quality to ensure data integrity and system reliability

  • Documentation of data processing workflows, methods, and tools to ensure transparency and traceability for all stakeholders

You inspire us

Preferred qualifications

  • 5 years of proven experience in the development of complex software projects 

  • Experience in building and maintaining data pipelines and cloud training environments, preferably with Microsoft Azure 

  • Experienced in the independent development of software projects 

  • Practical experience in the development of real-time applications and the integration of AI algorithms 

  • Master's degree or PhD in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence or a related field

Minimum qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical thinking as well as a goal-oriented way of working 

  • Relevant professional experience in creating datasets

  • Practical experience in handling large datasets for training purposes (including dataset versioning)

  • Deep expertise in Python development
